Product Description We left everything behind, our families, homes, jobs and the only life we knew, for the promise of freedom. Freedom, in a new world which we knew nothing about, neither freedom nor the new world. ?ЂњHow could we??Ђќ The only world we knew was a dark one, enclosed by the grip of the communist dictatorship accompanied by daily abuse: physical, mental and the endless humiliation and brainwashing. Yet deep within our souls we had a yearning for freedom, for liberty and justice, for the pursuit of happiness what our creator has designed within us. The price of freedom was great; trying to escape the grip of dictatorship was considered treason and carried a sentence of up to years in prison, physical beating, torture, humiliation, hunger and hard labor. I knew many who tried to escape before, including my two brothers, and I knew the consequences. We counted the cost, and we were ready to pay the price. It was 1988 April the 28th I was just 19 year old, when Laszlo and I we left in pursuit of freedom. Not knowing that our attempt to escape the communist Romania will end by losing even that little freedom we had. We been caught, beaten, abused, brainwashed and thrown in prison. The hard treatment did not quench the yearning for freedom, contrary the flames were incited even more. Also I was fighting a near blindness condition on both my eyes, and I was in a desperate need for medical attention, corneal transplants. While in prison I was planning the next escape. Finally I was unshackled, released from prison with a six months sentence to forced labor. In 1988 Dec. the 2nd escaped the forced labor sentence, and escaped through the Iron Curtain to Hungary to partial freedom, but there I received one of the much needed cornea transplants. In 1989, after the second attempt I made it to Austria, the first capitalist free country. After spending eight months in the refugee camp in Austria, in April 1990, finally made it to the United States, where I am enjoying freedom every day. Please read the whole story. Thanks for reading. Joseph Kulcsar Product Description We left everything behind, our families, homes, jobs and the only life we knew, for the promise of freedom.
